Time for the snow it is. Not that I would have had to leave Hamburg for that. There’s so much snow up there, that it took me hours yesterday to dig out my 🚌, and quite some more time to drive down south because of seriously crazy weather. Joyous New Year to you good people! Be always happy, healthy and curious, always and every day, not because the calendar says so. Just enjoy yourself. Happy Winter Solstice and Yuletide to all who are celebrating. While the year is drawing to a close, I am doing as nature does, resting and looking inwards, on myself, what I achieved and what I need to change (and what I need for that). Oh Hamburg! Yesterday I went on a little jubilee ride for my beloved red bicycle which just turned 9 recently. It was a lovely sunny autumn day, that time of the year where the velo nicely blends in with the colourful background that nature creates to remind us how beautiful it can be to let things go, and to enjoy things while they last. 🍁🍂🌞 So. After four weeks in Scotland, visiting places old and new, I now have to go home. What a splendid time I had! Autumn leaves 🍂 - slow-mo-ed and timelapsed. Taken during a walk around Robert Burns‘ Birthplace Museum and surroundings. A couple of days ago I visited the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Ayr, which was very interesting and an excellent walk around Rabbie‘s old hood. Yet, a poet lives through their work and words, to me, that is. So I got the biggest (literal) kick from walking between the museum, birthplace and garden, shovelling the autumn leaves with my feet. I am sure, the poet would have approved! Machrie Moor Standing Stones on the Isle of Arran, a few days ago, autumn colours and a tad of melancholy adding to a beautiful scenery. On my way to Kildalton on Islay and retour I passed quite a few distilleries. Stopped at each of them on the way back, as there were Ardbeg (closed), Lagavulin and Laphroaig, both open. Since I was cycling I couldn’t really buy anything (except a sample glass for a dear friend), but I was kindly given some drivers samples to try at home, much looking forward to those. From a couple of days ago, when I visited the Kildalton Cross and church in the southern part of Islay. Lovely little cycling tour it was, and the area was very peaceful and quiet. Greetings from the Isle of Islay where I have arrived two days ago, to explore the island and some of their distilleries en vélo 🚲🥃 ☺️ Mad hair day! I went for a walk around town in Tobermory this morning, lovely cheerful little place, buzzing harbour, great bookshop and, need I say it, a distillery 😇 From yesterday, where I drove along the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Lovely coastline despite the ongoing rain. Lots of deer along the rather bumpy road. Incredible views too, over to the Isles of Eigg and Muck. Oh Scotland … The first photo was taken last year in spring, on a quiet Sunday morning, during a rather shy first cycling trip in Scotland. Culloden Moor - some photos I took there today. Just some images from the past few days spent in the Cairngorms. … no standing stones to be seen. Did a little dance anyway. On another note the weather is finally ‘good’ 🥶 enough to wear the jumper I just finished knitting two weeks ago, made from wool I bought back in Iceland last year. The pattern is called ‘Uppstytta’ which means /upright/ and is supposed to relate to the dawn of the day. I did change the colours though. They remind me of blue water, violet heather, green moss, brown hills and cloudy skies. Talk about Scotland 😇 Yesterday I visited Abercorn Church and its graveyard. The site has been sacred ground since St Ninian visited during a mission to the Picts in the late 400s. Before long his followers had established a church here, perhaps the earliest in this part of Scotland. Blackness Castle, also referred to as ‘the ship that never sailed’, due to its form, was built by the Crichton family in the 15th century. In the series ‘Outlander’ it was used as Fort William. Some of you may remember the gruesome scenes when Jamie got flogged. It’s an impressive place for sure, yet a bit gloomy, moodwise. Those who know, know ☺️ On my walk today I also passed the statue of Greyfriars Bobby. According to Wikipedia his story goes as follows: Edinburgh impressions, part 3. Edinburgh impressions, part 2. Edinburgh impressions, part 1 Just some random images from my little cycling tour along the Firth of Forth today with Edinburgh, Arthur’s Seat and the Forth Bridges in the distance.
