[-326 or 40] Burning Wheels (An Easter Tradition)

Yesterday I went to see an old annual German tradition, the so-called ‘Osterraederlauf’ in Luegde. On Easter Sunday big wooden wheels, stuffed with straw, are burnt and being rolled down a hill to celebrate the end of winter. The burning wheels are also a symbol for the coming sun-filled summer months. Six of those wheels are sent down the hill and it is said that the further they go down the hill the better the coming harvest will be. According to the wheels’ run yesterday this summer will be a good one.
